Roglic dominates time trial in Pau
Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) won stage 10 of the Vuelta a Espana, a 36.2km individual time trial, in commanding fashion and catapulted himself into the red jersey. The Slovenian finished his effort with a time of 47:06, 25 seconds faster than Paddy Bevin (CCC Team), who took second. Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-QuickStep) had a strong performance in Pau to collect third on the day, 27 seconds back.
Things couldn’t have worked out worse for Nairo Quintana, who started the day in red, but lost more than three minutes to Roglic and dropped three places to fourth overall. Miguel Ángel López (Astana) remained in third overall, but also lost a significant amount of time. The best young rider now sits at 2:11 to the Jumbo Visma rider. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) had a great ride to boost himself into second overall, 1’52” behind.
At the start in Jurançon, Pawel Bernas (CCC Team) set the benchmark time of 50:55, which was outdone by several riders before landing on Patrick Bevin (CCC Team), whose time of 47:30 was good enough to keep him in the hot seat for almost an hour and a half as he waited for the GC favorites to take main stage.
By the time Roglic started, the Slovenian couldn’t be stopped. He continued to put time into his main contenders by each passing kilometre, and setting himself up for the overall win in less than two weeks time. \n
