2019 Tour of Utah Stage 6 Results & Recap
Stage 6 of the 2019 Tour of Utah is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Dombrowski wins final stage
Joe Dombrowski (EF Education First) snapped a four dry spell when he charged up Main St. Park City to claim the final stage of the 2019 Tour of Utah. Dombrowski, who was the 2015 champion here, hadn’t claimed a stage victory since he won atop Snowbird that year.
Dombrowski lay in wait amongst the favorites as the field thinned out to a few select riders on the classic climb of Empire Pass. With all eyes trained on the first and second place battle between Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) and James Piccoli (Elevate KHS), Dombrowski was shadowed by teammates Lawson Craddock and Lachlan Morton. Dombrowski largely led Hermans and Piccolli up the remainder of the climb and rode his companions off his wheel with 5K to go to the top of the KOM.
From that moment on Dombrowski super tucked and dove down to the base of the climb at one point reaching 71mph on the descent. Behind him, Keegan Swirbul had joined the other two leaders and aggressively challenged the others for the remaining kilometers. Joao Almeida (Axxeon-Hagens Berman) also made the final cut. In the end, Piccoli would have to settle for fifth behind Hermans, Swirbul, Almeida and Dombrowski.
For his efforts, however, Piccoli received the Most Aggressive Rider – more for week-long tenacity as opposed to his performance on the day.
Hermans remained in yellow, while Hayden McCormack (BridgeLane) hung onto the KOM prize despite not figuring into the final day’s climbing. Travis McCabe of the Worthy Brewing Squad maintained the lead in the sprinter’s competition, and best young rider was awarded to Almeida. Tony Baca of the 303 Project came away with the Fan Favorite jersey for the entire week of racing.
The day began as it always does during the Park City stage with a large breakaway that took an inordinate amount of time to form. Significant players in the day’s move included Evan Huffman of Rally UHC. Huffman made a similar effort during last year’s final stage, but in 2019 his participation had more weight due to the fact it was to be his final outing in the pro peloton. Along with Huffman were three Aevolo riders (Cade Bickmore, Scott McGill, and Gabriel Rojas), Matt Zimmer and Tony Baca. Keeping a close eye on proceedings, the peloton inevitably brought the breakaway back, however, on the base of Empire Pass.
