Stage 3 of the 2019 Tour of Utah is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Hermans makes it a double
With a sharp attack late in the stage that stamped his dominance all over this year’s Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) won his second stage of this year’s edition. His strength on the final climb on the Bountiful circuit was unmatched by his closest rivals, Kyle Murphy (Rally UHC) and Niklas Eg (Trek Segafredo), who finished second and third respectively.
The 33-year-old Belgian now sits 43 seconds ahead of James Piccoli (Elevate KHS) and a minute and five seconds over Eg.
The decisive move came with just 1 kilometre to go, when Hermans blew by a reduced group of GC favorites, whittled down by the relentless pace and attacks on the final three circuits. His burst of speed left his competitors without an answer, and Hermans never looked back.
Starting in familiar Antelope Island State Park, the Tour of Utah took off with 102 riders under hot temperatures of 90 degrees plus, but that didn’t cool down the proceedings. Attacks came thick and fast, but nothing materialized until they were well off the island, 65 kilometres into the stage.
The move included recently crowned US champion Alex Howes (EF Education First), Nigel Ellsay (Rally UHC), Lorenzo Fortunato (Neri Sottoli Selle Italia KTM), Marco Canola (Nippo-Vini Fantini-Faizane) and Travis McCabe (Worthy Pro Cycling).
Hayden McCormick (Team Bridgelane) managed to bridge across, and the peloton put on the brakes, letting the break eke out a maximum advantage of two minutes.
Everything exploded on the final circuit, when Murphy and Craddock caught and passed the five leaders. For a hot second it looked like Craddock might have it in the bag, but Hermans, just a few seconds back, knocked it down a few gears and flew to victory. \n
