Course Preview

The penultimate stage of the Tour de Suisse is a 19 kilometres ITT in Goms. Although the race is played at an altitude of more than 1,300 metres, the course is predominantly flat with an altitude gain of 98 metres.

The riders roll down the start ramp to follow the RhĂ´ne upstream. Following a short lap in Oberwald the route returns on the other side of the river, also on flat terrain. The course is extremely fast with hardly any bends to reduce the speed. The last kilometre features some tight 90 degree bends though.

The intermediate time check is after 11 kilometres in Obergesteln, while the expected average speed is 52 kms/hour, which should lead to times of around 11 minutes.

Last year’s ITT on the Tour de Suisse was longer (34 kilometres) and more undulating. Stefan Küng won ahead of Søren Kragh Andersen Tejay van Garderen, while Richie Porte sealed the overall victory more than 1 minute ahead of Jakob Fuglsang and Nairo Quintana.
