Course Preview

The Giro d'Italia is set to finish with an out-and-back ITT of 17 kilometres in Verona. The city’s Roman amphitheatre is hosts the finish of the first Grand Tour of 2019, while the route takes in a moderate climb of 4.5 kilometres at 4.6 percent.

The 1984 and 2010 Giro d’Italia finished in similar style with Francesco Moser and Ivan Basso winning the maglia rosa. The ITT on the last day of action takes in an intermediate climb on the Via Torricelli. With its gradients fairly steady the ascent slopes for 4.5 kilometres at 4.6 percent. The intermediate time check is at the summit – kilometre 9.2 – before a descent along wide roads leads to the finish in the Arena.

Verona is the home of Romeo and Juliet.

Including this 17 kilometres of time trialing, the route of the 2019 Giro d’Italia takes in almost 60 kilometres against the clock. As many of these are on rolling to hilly roads, the climbers are given a chance to limit their losses.
