Course Preview
Following the ITT on the Giro's first day of action, the race leaves Bologna in the 2nd stage. The route goes south to finish in Fucecchio, while the distance will be 200 kilometres.
The Giro-Bologna love affair cooled off in recent years, but with 2019’s Grande Partenza pink vibes are once again in the air in the city of Etruscan Origin. Following the ITT to the Santuario della Madonna di San Luca on the first day of action, the riders now head south to Fuchecchio.
The route cuts across the Apennines to reach its highest point in La Serra at an elevation of 750 metres. Following the descent, the road is mostly flat until climbs to Montalbano, and San Baronto appear at kilometre 150. The Montalbano climb is steep, but the ascent to San Baronto is doable with gradients around 3%. The last 20 kilometres are played out on the flat.
Elia Viviani won the 2nd stage of the 2018 edition. The Italian sprinted to victory at the end of a race from Haifa to Tel Aviv.
