Course Preview
At 151 kilometres, the 19th stage is the penultimate mountainous race of the Giro d'Italia. With a start in Treviso and finish in San Martino di Castrozza, the route takes in several climbs, while the ascent to the line amounts to 13.6 kilometres.
Following the start in Treviso the riders head to the foot of the Santa Maria della Vittoria, an easy climb to stretch the legs (and possibly form the breakaway). The route continues to Follina and Tovena to tackle the Passo San Boldo: 6 kilometres at 7.5%. It is an impressive structure with five tunnels blasted into the rock, several hairpins and six bridges. The route descends to Trichiana and continues west to Feltre
After Feltre the Giro moves through Fonzaso and climbs up to Lamon to hit the final ascent in Fiera di Primiero. The San Martino di Castrozza climb amounts to 13.6 kilometres, while its average gradient sits at 5.6%. One could argue that the actual climb begins with the hairpins 5 kilometres before the top. The first 4 kilometres go up at 6.5% before the slope levels out in the last kilometre.
