Course Preview

Sandwiched between the Alps stages in the last week of action, the 18th leg of the Giro d'Italia travels from Valdaora to Santa Maria di Sala. A bunch sprint is the most likely outcome at the end of the 220 kilometres race.

The race climbs false flat to its highest point Cimabanche. The 1,530 metres peak is crested at kilometre 30 before the rest of the race travels virtually all downhill. After 85 kilometres of non-stop flying down the mountains a climb to Pieve d’Alpago demands to change gears, and a little later La Sella di Fadalto is crested before the drop continues.

The last 60 kilometres are almost flat – yet, it still goes slightly downhill from a technical point of view. Conegliano, with 65 kilometres out, is located at an altitude of 62 metres and the finish line at 13 metres.
