2018 Tour of Utah Stage 5 Results & Recap
Stage 5 of the 2018 Tour of Utah is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Kuss victorious on queen stage
Hermans second on the day, moves into second overall\nBy Clara Beard
Sepp Kuss (Lotto NL Jumbo) stamped his authority all over the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah today, attacking on the final HC climb to Snowbird, claiming the stage win and opening up his lead in the overall competition.
Ben Hermans (Israel Cycling Academy) was the only rider to attempt to keep Kuss in his sights, finishing 39 seconds behind the 23-year-old climbing phenom. His result moved him up nine places overall into second, a minute and 21 seconds in arrears of Kuss.
With three KOMs, the last of which an 11km slog to the summit finish at Snowbird resort, every team, except Lotto NL Jumbo, seemed excited to get into the break at the start of the 154km stage. After plenty of attacks, one finally established after about 20 kilometers into the stage when the peloton hit the first Cat. 4 KOM at Jordanelle.
The breakaway included: Ruben Plaza (Israel Cycling Academy), Evan Huffman (Rally Cycling), Cameron Meyer (Mitchelton-Scott), Kilian Frankiny (BMC Racing), Niklas Eg (Trek-Segafredo), Kiel Reijnen (Trek-Segafredo), Daniel Jaramillo (UnitedHealthcare), Jonny Clarke (UnitedHealthcare), Taylor Shelden (Jelly Belly-Maxxis) and Ivan Santaromita (Nippo-Vini Fantini).
After the breakaway settled in, things calmed down and Lotto NL Jumbo took over the front of the peloton. The advantage reached up to 4:10 about midway through the stage.
On Guardsmans Pass, Frankiny attacked his breakaway companions, who were quickly swept up by the peloton after EF Education First came to the front to try and isolate Kuss.
The opposite because the case, however, when Kuss attacked the GC group and quickly distanced his opponents. The young climbing phenom was never seen again and only Hermans was able to keep pace for a few moments before sliding back.
Peter Stetina jumped out of the remainder of what was left of the main peloton that contained Joe Dombrowski, Hugh Carthy (EF-Drapac), Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott) and Luis Villalobos (Aevolo).
