2018 Tour of Utah Stage 4 Results & Recap
Stage 4 of the 2018 Tour of Utah is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Philipsen wins stage 4\nBy Clara Beard
Jasper Philipsen won stage 4 of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah in a photo finish ahead of yesterday’s winner, Travis McCabe. The Hagens Berman Axeon rider finished just inches ahead of McCabe after a drag race style battle to the line in Salt Lake City.
Sepp Kuss (Lotto NL Jumbo) remains in the yellow jersey, with no changes to GC before the queen stage at Snowbird. Kuss sits 19 seconds ahead of his teammate, Neilson Powless and 25 seconds ahead of Tejay van Garderen (BMC).
With no KOMs on the stage, but still a lumpy profile, Stage 4’s 10 lap circuit race saw a breakaway get off the front almost immediately. TJ Eisenhart (Holowesko-Citadel) and Laurent Didier (Trek-Segafredo), Sam Bewley (Mitchelton-Scott), Sho Hatsauyama (Nippo-Vini Fantini), Edward Anderson (Hagens Berman Axeon), Danick Vandale (Silber Pro Cycling), Lance Haidet (Aevolo) and Bernat Font Mas (303 Project).
Nigel Ellsay (Rally Cycling), Joey Rosskopf (BMC Racing), Michael Ries (Trek-Segafredo), Ivan Santaromita (Nippo-Vini Fantini), Serghei Tvetcov (UnitedHealthcare), Jonny Clarke (UnitedHealthcare), Taylor Shelden (Jelly Belly-Maxxis) and Michael Hernandez (Aevolo) bridged up to join, making a group of 16 off the front.
Lotto NL Jumbo quickly got to the front to control the pace, keeping it at one minute for the majority of the 114km stage.
As the laps fell away, so did several of the breakaway riders, and on the penultimate lap, the group was down to eight with a 40 second advantage.
With the peloton breathing down their necks, Clarke sensed the danger and attacked solo, but the race was destined to be a bunch gallop as the lone survivors of the break were reabsorbed with just 800 meters to go to the line.
