2018 Tour of Utah Stage 2 Results & Recap
Stage 2 of the 2018 Tour of Utah is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
The peloton rolled out for another challenging day in the Utah mountains, and it was a stage that delivered plenty of drama and excitement from start to finish.
The day's racing saw a breakaway group get up the road early, as is typical in these kinds of mountain stages. The escapees worked well together and built up a solid advantage over the peloton, which was content to let the move go while the sprinters' teams and general classification squads monitored the situation carefully.
As the race pushed deeper into the stage and the roads began to climb, the breakaway's lead began to erode. The peloton increased its tempo on the key ascents, and the gap came down steadily as riders were shelled out the back of the main group one by one.
Travis McCabe delivered a strong performance to take the stage victory, showcasing his ability to handle the rolling and punchy terrain that characterized much of the day's route. His win was a well-timed and well-executed effort that demonstrated both patience and explosive speed at the right moment.
The general classification picture shifted slightly following the stage, with time gaps opening up between some of the key contenders. The climbers in the field will be looking ahead with anticipation as the race heads into even more demanding terrain in the days to come, while today's stage winner can celebrate a memorable result here in Utah.
