BMC wins Vuelta team time trial opener

Dennis moves into red leaders jersey

The black and red colors of BMC racing team came across the line with the fastest time in Nimes today in the opening stage of the Vuelta a Espana. The team’s time of 15 minutes and 58 seconds over the 13.7 kilometre course bested Quick-Step Floors time by six seconds and placed Rohan Dennis into the red leaders jersey at the end of the day.

The Colombian Manzana Postobon team was the first off the ramp in Nimes, France and set the first best time of 16:51. As the bigger teams went out on the winding, twisting course that saw a few teams go down around the same tricky corner, the time went down considerably. Team Sunweb was in the driving seat for a while before Quickstep-Floors jumped ahead in the leaderboard by a few hundredths of a second.

That’s how the teams were placed until two time team time trial world champions BMC showed why they were the pre-race favorites and sped across the line with Rohan Dennis finishing first by a clear margin.
