What a dramatic day in the mountains as the Tour de Suisse reached its crucial eighth stage. The peloton faced a demanding route that would test the best climbers in the race, and the day did not disappoint in delivering excitement and significant changes to the general classification.
Chris Froome of Team Sky put in a commanding performance to claim the stage victory, crossing the finish line ahead of his rivals and demonstrating once again why he is considered one of the finest climbers in the modern peloton. The Team Sky leader attacked at a decisive moment on the final climb, distancing his closest rivals with a measured but powerful effort that proved impossible to match.
Stefan Küng, who had been wearing the leader's jersey, found himself under significant pressure throughout the final ascent. The Swiss rider battled hard to defend his position, but the sheer pace set by the eventual stage winner proved too much to contain over the final kilometers.
