Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 3 of the 2017 Tour de France! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
In stage 3 of the Tour de France from Verviers to Longwy, we will see more attempts at long breakaways on this 212.5 km stage. There are more categorized climbs today, five to be exact that will make this route suited for the puncheurs.
Frankie Andreu's take: Remaining in Belgium the obstacle dangers will continue. The cat 3 climb at the finish does suit the puncheurs that have power and speed to win from a smaller group. This will be a dangerous stage for the G.C. riders because they don’t want to lose time in the uphill finish. Positioning will be critical in the final ten kilometers to stay safe and be in a position for the stage victory. This stage suits an all-rounder, not a specialist, and this type of stage doesn’t happen very often so it can be an incredible opportunity for an unexpected winner.
