2017 Tour de France Stage 2 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 2 of the 2017 Tour de France! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
Starting from yesterday’s time trial host city Düsseldorf, the first road stage will feature two lesser categorised climbs at the very start of the stage (6.5km) and the end (183km) of the 203 km stage. This will be a stage for a rouleur looking to thwart the efforts of the sprinters in the first week of the tour.
Frankie Andreu's take: Depending on where the sprinters finished this should determine who controls this stage. Much of the stage is in Germany and the two bumps (climbs) in the stage shouldn’t prove any difficulty for the peloton. The danger here will be the obstacles in the road like sidewalks, roundabouts, and the fans. Fresh legs will push the limits of everyone’s bike handling as they fight for position and deal with the stress of a crazy field sprint.
