Course Preview
It’s the last day for the climbers to make their mark of this year’s edition, and what better place to do it then the Izoard, which at 10 km of a 9 percent gradient, will host a spectacular finale to stage 18.
Frankie Andreu's take: Some riders will not be threatened by this stage. The large climbs come at the end of the day and there is plenty of time for the grupetto to form and to make the time cut without going all in. For the G.C. riders this is the time to lay their cards on the table. The bluffing is over and if they want a place on the podium, the HC Col d’Izoard mountain top finish is the time to place your bets. It’s the last climbing stage of the race and any pure climbers will want to distance themselves from those that are good against the clock. By this point the yellow jersey just needs to hang on and watch the others as they do battle just in front of him.
