Course Preview
At 189.5 km from Laissac-Sévérac l'Église to Le Puy-en-Velay, it’ll be interesting to see who still has the legs to get over the two category 1 climbs with the best riders after two weeks of tough racing. Will it be a solo rider who wins in Le Puy-en-Velay or a sprint from a break? Either way, this will be an exciting stage.
Frankie Andreu's take: A category 1 climb only 15km’s into the start of the stage is a sprinter's nightmare. All day the stage is up and down and this doesn’t leave a lot of level terrain to chase from behind. While the back of the group will be struggling the front of the group will be content to just stay with each other. It will be a difficult course to control things by riding on the front and perhaps this is exactly what the other teams will want. It’s time to put the yellow jersey team into difficulty and to try and wear them out. If some riders close on G.C. can get into the break, and threaten the Yellow jersey, then everyone will get a better understanding of how the strong the yellow jersey team is.
