Course Preview
This is another stage that favours the talents of a puncher, able to shine on short, lumpy climbs in a breakaway situation. Two categorised 3 climbs will feature on today’s route from Blagnac to Rodez, a total of 181.5 km.
Frankie Andreu's take: A nice day for a rouleur or puncheur to strike it rich with a TDF stage. This stage suits someone who can win Amstel Gold, Flanders, or Leige-Bastogne-Leige. A rider with power, strength, and a burst of speed when needed. It’s a stage where it’s not hard enough to break apart the peloton but hard to get away. It’s these medium stages where many are hanging on for dear life. In the mountains you can sit up and ride at your own pace, in the flat stages you can sit in and get pulled along, in these rolling stages it’s a matchup of watts. Many times the power being applied at the front of the group matches what is needed in the back of the group just to stay connected. Look for some very tired legs by the finish line.
