While the GC contenders keep themselves safely out of trouble, the sprinters will come out to play again on this flat 203 km stage. Crosswinds could complicate proceedings, however and it’s possible a committed breakaway could spoil the fast men’s plan today.
Frankie Andreu's take: This is one of those confusing days because many are not thinking about today, but about what is to come. The big mountains are in the coming days, so how much work are the riders willing to do today? The G.C. teams are thinking about saving themselves and many other riders want a day off to have energy for the upcoming mountains. This is another great chance for the stage hunters, but it is not easy getting into the breakaway. A slew of attacks will occur at the start and you can’t go with all of them. It will take some strong legs, a little bit of luck, and fingers crossed you can find yourself in the right move.
