Course Preview

The kick off to the 2017 edition of the Tour de France is a 14 kilometre individual time trial starting at Düsseldorf Messe. The flat, fast course will take the riders along the east side of the Rhine, heading southeast before heading back on the other side of the river.

Frankie Andreu's take: This is no prologue so the time gained or lost here will be critical. This could set up the winner to hold the yellow jersey for a number of days. For the sprinters, they will have to do a great ride over the 14km TT to stay in touch for their chance to get yellow with the time bonuses that are awarded at that stage finishes. Everyone will go flat out, because at this point everyone believes they have a chance to get on the podium.
