Luca Scinto Says: By now you have maybe 15 guys riding for the overall, a few for the points and mountains jerseys and 130-150 riders relying on their powers of recovery. If they’ve survived the previous day it’s because they’re totally committed to finishing but it doesn’t alter the fact that their bodies want them to just stop. They’ve had 18 hours rest before going back into the red. Most will be hoping that the break goes straight away, so they can then relax. It will go sooner or later but it could be an hour of living hell before the elastic snaps. It’s 200km and quite lumpy but they all know that once the break goes it’s almost certain to stay away.
