Race Recap

Bauke Mollema (Belkin) claimed victory on stage 17 of the Vuelta a España in Burgos with a clever attack inside the final kilometre at the end of a windswept day that saw the peloton split in the finale.

Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) retains the red jersey and maintains his 28-second lead over Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard) in the general classification as both men were present and correct when Saxo-Tinkoff forced a select echelon at the head of the peloton.

Nicolas Roche’s teammates, aided by Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard) and a delegation from Movistar, succeeded in forcing the selection when they hit the front of the peloton in crosswinds with 28 kilometres to go, catching early escapees Javier Aramendia (Caja Rural) and Adam Hansen (Lotto Belisol) in the process.
