What a day in the Pyrenees as Stage 15 of this year's Tour de France delivered everything fans could have hoped for from a mountain stage. The riders tackled a brutal route finishing atop the legendary Ventoux, wait, no, this stage finished at Ax 3 Domaines after crossing some of the most punishing climbs the Pyrenees have to offer.

Chris Froome once again demonstrated why he is the dominant force at this race, putting in another commanding performance on the final climb to distance his rivals and further cement his grip on the yellow jersey. The Sky leader climbed with his characteristic seated style, grinding out an impressive tempo that none of his general classification rivals could match when it truly mattered.

Nairo Quintana was among the most threatening of the challengers today, the young Colombian showing the climbing talent that has made him such an exciting prospect at this race. Alberto Contador also made his presence felt and tried to test Froome, but the Briton responded with authority each time pressure was applied.

Behind the main favorites, a breakaway had animated the earlier portions of the stage, giving fans some excitement before the mountains inevitably brought everything back together as the road tilted sharply upward in the closing kilometers.

Froome crossed the line to take the stage victory and extended his lead in the general classification, leaving his rivals with serious questions about how they might unseat him before Paris. The yellow jersey looks increasingly secure on his shoulders.
