HOME ADVANTAGE\nThere’s a bump mid-stage but otherwise it’s downhill all the way to the cycling stronghold of Treviso. Not only is it the home town of the Pinarello bike company but the Veneto region is also home to the current generation of Italian sprinters. Messrs’ Guardini, Viviani and Modolo will all be desperate to win today but the likes of Cavendish, Ferrari and Goss aren’t in the business of rolling over for anyone. Elsewhere, Sky and Movistar, each riding Pinarello bikes, can be expected to be extremely visible.
Stefano Zanatta says: "The climb is quite a long way out but all hell will break loose on it because it’s in everybody’s interests to see Cavendish dropped. Modolo, in particular, will be desperate to win because he’s on his home turf. The sprinters who haven’t won anything yet are running out of stages now, so it will be a real battle between their teams. I think it’s very likely that the peloton will come back together and that the finish will be spectacular."
